Melissa Cantwell

Artistic Director of Perth Theatre Company, Melissa directed Sir Peter Shaffer’s Equus at His Majesty’s Theatre last year. As Associate Director for the Company she directed Speed the Plow, St. Nicholas and The Goat or Who is Sylvia? (Winner Best Production, Equity Guild Awards 2007). Prior to joining Perth Theatre Company she was the Program Manager for The Blue Room and completed a Bachelor of Communications (Film) at Edith Cowan University and a post-graduate Bachelor of Performing Arts (Directing) at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA). Other directing credits include States of Shock (PICA), The Proper Shoes (DADAA WA / ABC Radio and TRASNA Festival of Inclusive Theatre, Ireland), micky.com (Blue Room Theatre, winner Best Production 2005) and Animal Farm (WAAPA). Melissa wrote and directed After The Fair (Winner Best Premiere Production, WA Fringe Festival 2002). Her playwriting credits include Marmalade and Egg (Perth Theatre Company; JUTE in association with Queensland Theatre Company, winner Best New Play, Equity Guild Awards 2007), The Seven Deadly Australian Sins (JUTE, Darwin Theatre Company), and The Lost Girl (Perth International Arts Festival/Barking Gecko Theatre Company). Melissa has performed on stage, television and radio.
