Peter Holland

Peter Holland was born in Perth and studied music at University of Western Australia (WAAPA) but was seduced by the theatre. He started working life in 1964 as an actor with the National Theatre Company at the Playhouse. The following year he got his first job in radio, reading news for 6PM-AM. The same year was appointed as an announcer at the ABC, where he spent the next 32 years making programmes on radio and television. From 1998 to 2003 he presented television news for Channel 9 in Perth. He remains an active broadcaster for ABC Classic FM. In 2004 he was appointed Senior Lecturer at WAAPA where he is in charge of the Post-graduate Broadcasting course.
In 2008 he was awarded a Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning by the Australian Learning and Teaching Council. He has been active in the community and cultural life of Perth. He was a Commissioner of Lotterywest from 2001 to 2007 and for ten years was a member of the Board of Directors of the West Australian Symphony Orchestra. In 1995 he was made Citizen of the Year for Community Services. Peter recently featured in Perth Theatre Company’s production of Equus.
