Michael Loney

Perth born Michael completed an English Degree at Curtin University (then the Western Australian Institute of Technology) in 1977. After working as an actor in WA for three years Michael was awarded a Rotary Foundation Scholarship to study at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England from 1980-82. He then spent the next six years working in England, Ireland and Scotland in theatre, radio and television most notably in Coronation St and Howards’ Way. Michael returned to WA in 1988 and has since worked for all the major companies in Perth most recently in Much Ado about Nothing for Black Swan State Theatre Company. For Perth Theatre Company Michael has appeared in many productions including Shadow Of The Eagle, Soulmates, The Chatroom, Face to Face (Perth Festival, WA tour and Brazil), The Goat or Who is Sylvia? and Speaking in Tongues for which he won the inaugural Equity Award for Best Actor, an Award for which he has received four nominations. Other theatre work in WA includes many seasons in Shakespeare in the Park and many roles at the Effie Crump Theatre, including Noel in Noel and Gertie. Television work include Ship to Shore I, II and III, Minty, Sleepover Club II, The Sharknet and he will soon be seen in the new series of The Circuit.
